Specialty Course

Underwater Navigator

Knowing where you are in the water - and even more importantly - knowing how to find your way back to the boat at the end of the dive reduces anxiety and greatly enhances your enjoyment of your scuba diving. You'll avoid long surface swims and save time and air because you get to where you're going via the most efficient route.

Course Contents

 

In PADI Underwater Navigation Specialty Course you'll learn navigation techniques including

 

  • Distance estimation

  • Compass use

  • Navigation patterns: reciprocal, square and irregular patterns

  • Natural navigation techniques

  • Relocating a dive site or a dropped object

  • Use of NavFinder

 

You'll practise navigation patterns on land before you put your skills to use underwater. During the course you'll do

 

  • Three (3) dives in open water (1 day)

  • Knowledge review

 

There is also video you can watch, if you like, and a you'll get the PADI Underwater Navigator manual. You'll need to complete the two Knowledge Reviews. A short review session with your instructor is done at some point either between or after the dives, or as a separate session.

 

Prerequisites

 

  • PADI Open Water Diver or Junior Open Water Diver (or have a qualifying certification from another organization) or higher

  • Minimum age 10 years

 

Course fee

 

Underwater Navigation Specialty:   from HKD2,400 per person

 

Course fee includes professional instruction, course manual, tanks & weights used during the course and certification fee.

Underwater Navigation

Learning the navigation techniques in the Underwater Navigation Specialty Course enhances your enjoyment of your scuba dives as you know where you are and how to get back to boat.
