What you learn

Your training starts by reviewing reasons for deep diving and how important it is to know your personal limits. During four deep dives with your instructor, you’ll go over:

  • Specialized deep diving equipment.

  • Deep dive planning, buddy contact procedures and buoyancy control.

  • Managing your gas supply, dealing with gas narcosis and safety considerations.

During the course you'll do

  • Four (4) dives in open water (2 days)

  • Knowledge review

There is a video you can watch and a you'll get the PADI Deep Diver manual. You'll need to complete the two Knowledge Reviews. A review session with your instructor is done at some point either between or after the dives, or as a separate session.

Where

Deep Diver Specialty is one of the courses we usually run overseas, or at least some of the dives. In recreational diving a deep dive is generally defined as a dive deeper than 18m to the recreational maximum of 40m. While it is possible to satisfy the required depths in Hong Kong, we feel that at least one of the course dives should approach the 40m limit, and that is difficult to arrange here.

The lure of the deep. There’s something exciting and mysterious about exploring deeper dive sites while scuba diving. Sometimes it’s a wreck that attracts you below 18 metres, and on wall dives it may be a giant fan or sponge. Whatever it is, to scuba dive with confidence at depths down to 40 metres, you should take the PADI Deep Diver Specialty Course.
