Struggling with your buoyancy? When you want to get close to something, you don't seem to be able to get exactly where you wanted to? You seem to use more air than other divers? If any of those apply to you, PADI Peak Performance Buoyancy Specialty Course is a course for you.

Once you get your buoyancy control sorted you can enjoy moving around freely and have fun in three dimensional space - in any position you like.

Streamlining, proper weighting, good trim and horizontal position in the water reduce energy you need to move in the water. You'll use less air, get longer dives and generally enjoy diving more.

Good buoyancy control is an environmentally friendly skill: you can hover over sensitive parts of the reef without damaging aquatic life.

There's no denying that peak performance buoyancy control defines a truly skilled scuba diver. You’ve seen them underwater. They glide effortlessly, use less air and ascend, descend or hover almost as if by thought. You can achieve that, too. It's not always easy and takes some practice, but with some guidance, you'll learn to trim your scuba gear and hover effortlessly to save air and move smoothly through the water.

What you learn

The Peak Performance Buoyancy teaches you

  • Proper horizontal trim

  • Proper weighting

  • Streamlining, efficient finning techniques

  • Fine-tuning buoyancy underwater

  • Buoyancy drills

Where?

Peak Performance Buoyancy Specialty course can be done either in a swimming pool or open water. In Hong Kong conditions, a swimming pool offers better visibility and you may even do the diving part of the course in an evening after work hours.

What you do

  • Two (2) dives in open water (1 day)
    or
Buoyancy clinic in a swimming pool (3hrs - one evening)

  • Short knowledge review

There is a manual and you'll need to complete two Peak Performance Buoyancy Knowledge Reviews. A short review session with your instructor is done at some point between or after the dives, or as a separate session. There is also a short video you might want to watch. It is short and you can watch it even during your lunch break - pack a lunch or pick up a take-away and pop in for movie time...

A diver hovering in a proper horizontal trim produces a small front profile and reduces drag. Moving and turning to any direction - forwards, backwards, around - becomes effortless.
