PSAI Trimix Programs

The Professional Scuba Association International’s (PSAI) Trimix Diver program is designed for those divers who wish to conduct dives using helium based bottom mixes with associated advanced staged decompression techniques. The PSAI Trimix diver program is conducted in three phases leading to dive depths of up to 100 meters.

The dives in our Trimix programs are conducted abroad, typically in the Philippines.

PSAI Trimix Fundamentals (Level I)

Trimx Fundamentals
Course Objectives

This course provides the necessary information for a PSAI Trimix diver to know the proper procedures to:

  • Determine appropriate gas for planned target depths as well as the appropriate decompression gas.

  • Determine appropriate diving equipment for planned Trimix dives.

  • Plan dives based on established limits and cautions for diving gases.

  • Analyze and verify all gases for Trimix diving.

  • Monitor and acknowledge the various effects of Gas Narcosis.

Qualifications

A diver that successfully completes the PSAI Trimix Fundamentals (Level I) program will be qualified to:

  • Plan and conduct Trimix dives to depths of 55 meters utilizing helium based breathing gases and advanced decompression techniques.

  • Evaluate the effects of Gas Narcosis for Mixed Gas dives.

  • Obtain appropriate diving gases for Mixed Gas diving.Conduct Mixed Gas dives in environments and conditions that approximate those of training.

Prerequisites

  • Minimum age 18 years old

  • Certification: PSAI Advanced Nitrox or equivalent or PSAI Extended Range or equivalent

  • minimum of one hundred (100) logged open water dives, of which
minimum of thirty (30) decompression dives deeper than 30 meters

What you do

  • Approximately 8-12 hours for classroom and practical demonstrations

  • Students with PSAI Extended Range cetification, minimum four (4) helium based dives
Students with PSAI Advanced Nitrox cetification, minimum six (6) helium based dives

Materials

PSAI Trimix manual and appropriate dive planning materials.

Trimix diving

Adding helium into your breathing mix has two advantages: helium is less narcotic than nitrogen and can be used to replace some of the nitrogen in your mix to reduce the effects of nitrogen narcosis. Second, by reducing oxygen content of the mix, it allows you to go deeper than with air.

Expedition Trimix

PSAI Expedition Trimix (Level II)

Course Objectives

This course builds upon Trimix Fundamentals (Level I) to

  • Determine appropriate gas for planned target depths as well as the appropriate decompression gas.

  • Determine appropriate diving equipment for planned Trimix dives.

  • Plan dives based on established limits and cautions for diving gases.

  • Analyze and verify all gases for Trimix diving.

  • Monitor and acknowledge the various effects of Gas Narcosis.

Qualifications

A diver that successfully completes the PSAI Expedition Trimix (Level II) program will be qualified to:

  • Plan and conduct Trimix dives to depths of 75 meters utilizing helium based breathing gases and advanced decompression techniques.

  • Evaluate the effects of Gas Narcosis for Mixed Gas dives.

  • Obtain appropriate diving gases for Mixed Gas diving. Conduct Mixed Gas dives in environments and conditions that approximate those of training.

Prerequisites

  • Minimum age 18 years old

  • Certification: PSAI Trimix Fundamentals (Level I) or equivalent

  • minimum of one hundred (100) logged open water dives, of which
minimum of thirty (30) decompression dives deeper than 30 meters

What you do

  • Two (2) trimix dives:
    - Dive 1 to 60-70m
    - Dive 2 to 72-25m

Materials

PSAI Trimix manual and appropriate dive planning materials.
